The late Delma M. Petrullo, city councilor to District 3, had a tremendous influence on me and what I see as my relationship to my community. She often said that she was not a politician, but was here to represent her constituents. It was because of the many conversations that we had about our city of Rio Rancho that I began to take an active interest in the inner workings of our governing body and our city.
I have been attending for the most part, the city council meetings since 2008. As a small business owner and being self employed, it does require a tremendous amount of dedication and commitment to take the time to review upcoming city council agendas and to attend the meetings. It does take time to follow all of this. I, like everyone else, feel the stress, pressures and strain of trying to make a living and survive some very challenging economic times.
However, I also feel that as citizens, it is important that we ALL pay attention to what's on the agenda and what is being voted on.
This is why I became interested in becoming a city councilor: because I do care about my community and it's future.
