Councilor Scott's Letter to the Mayor Asking For A Special Work Session Re: #Chamisa Hills Golf and Country Club
May 30, 2013
Mr. Mayor:
I write to you today asking that you call a work session meeting of the Governing Body to take place within the next two weeks to discuss issues surrounding the Chamisa Hills Golf and Country Club. As you already know, per an existing resolution adopted by the Governing Body related to our meeting schedules, the mayor has the authority to schedule a work session, whereas just one city councilor does not have this authority.
Previously, the idea of scheduling a work session related to Chamisa Hills was raised by you and discussed by the members of the Governing Body at one of our regular meetings. In light of yesterday’s cancellation of the previously scheduled live, online auction for the Chamisa Hills property; change to another method for interested bidders to submit a purchase offer; public statements made by the current Chamisa Hills owner; and growing resident concern and questions, I believe a work session would beneficial for several reasons.
First, a work session would provide a venue for citizens concerned about the current and future status of the Chamisa Hills property to express their views to the Governing Body.
Second, members of the Governing Body could further review and discuss, for our benefit and that of the public, all, and I stress all, of the facts surrounding the Chamisa Hills property and the previously approved increases to the recycled water rate that Chamisa Hills would pay would not start until June 2014.
Lastly, should you schedule this work session, I would urge the Governing Body to formally invite the current Chamisa Hills property owner and representatives from the company assisting with the sale of the property to attend the meeting with time allotted for them to speak. If in attendance, they could provide information they believe is relevant for the Governing Body and the public, and an open and transparent dialogue with the Governing Body could take place.
I appreciate your consideration of this request.
Respectfully Submitted,
Deputy Mayor/District 4 City Councilor Mark Scott

MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR IN RESPONSE TO THE SPECIAL SESSION:
Councilor Scott,
Thank you for emailing me. At the present time I do intend to call a
work session. However, before I do, I will meet with Keith (city
manager) first. As you know I am on vacation this week, so my meeting
with Keith will not take place until next week.
Sincerely,
Mayor Thomas E. Swisstack
City of Rio Rancho
