Own the Night - Own Your Community
National Night Out is a designated evening when communities across America come together to take a stand against crime, drugs, and disorder in their neighborhoods. This year, August 6, 2013, is National Night Out (NNO) and the Rio Rancho Police Department will again be partnering with members of the community to affirm our conviction against crime and disorder.
In the spirit of neighborhoods uniting toward a common goal (crime prevention), the Police Department is looking for individuals from across town who will organize an event in their neighborhood. It does not have to be elaborate or difficult to plan. While we have had large events in the past, local events that involve more neighbors are effective in getting this message out, and forming community bonds.
National Night Out has grown from an annual single event to multiple events throughout the city, touching multiple neighborhoods and many residents. If there isn’t an event in your neighborhood, please consider coordinating one. If you do, please contact the Police Department and members of the department will come visit your event in the spirit of community.
A potluck dinner or small barbeque may be in order, and if not, consider an after dinner gathering at a neighbor’s house or the local park. Leaving porch lights on and having a neighborhood walk are traditions of National Night Out. These events will be planned by the neighborhoods themselves, with the support and encouragement of the Police Department.
The Police Department is looking forward to assisting anyway we can in the organization and coordination of your neighborhood’s event. If you are interested or know of someone who would be, please contact the Rio Rancho Police Department Community Relations Unit at (505) 891-5908.
