Tuesday, Sept. 18th: 4-6 pm: UNM Art dedication of two public art pieces: 1) “Gateways to Lupus” (2012) by Artist Matthew Lutz was commissioned jointly by the City of Rio Rancho Arts Commission and UNM. The artwork is comprised of nine Cor-ten steel arches arranged in the shape of the constellation Lupus (the Lobo/Wolf), as seen from above. 2) “Bevel” (2004) by Tom Waldron was purchased by the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs’ 1% for the Arts program and placed at UNM-West. For more than years Waldron has been transforming sheet metal into elegant, sensual and massive forms from his New Mexico studio. Waldron, who studied at UNM, has an extensive, nationally recognized body of work. To find out more about these public works of art at UNM West, go here.
Tuesday, Sept 18th, 6-8 pm: UNM West hosted a welcoming ceremony for the new President of UNM, Dr. Bob Frank and an alumni gathering to thank the supporters of the UNM West campus. Frank addressed his new vision for UNM West, such as expanding the campus offerings to focus on five degree programs, as well as his plan to develop a thorough student transfer program with CNM.
Wednesday, Sept. 19th, 7- 8 am: Police Union meeting
Thursday, Sept. 20th, 6-8 pm: Sandoval County Commission meeting
Saturday, Sept. 22, 12-1 pm: Vets cookout at VFW.
